Ann Waugh Design and Illustration

Ann Waugh is an American set and costume designer who has created dozens of projects for the stage in the United States and Europe over the past 15 years. Recent projects include the musical Chicago at the historic Manoel Theatre in Valletta, Malta.

Her stage designs have been exhibited in Bulgaria and have been featured in Theater magazine in Bulgaria and Theater Crafts (now Entertainment Design) magazine in the U.S.. She is a two-time winner of Princess Grace Foundation awards for excellence in costume design and recently was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the U.S. Department of State for promoting a better understanding of American culture in Malta through her design work and teaching.

A graduate of Brown University in Providence, RI, she holds an MFA in Set and Costume Design from New York University Tisch School of the Arts and has been a member of United Scenic Artists/IATSE since 1990.

In addition to her own stage design work, Ann has been a design assistant on numerous Broadway shows such as Walt Disney's The Lion King. She is especially proud to have worked with designer Tony Walton as his assistant on many shows, including the Tony Award winning Broadway revivals of She Loves Me and Guys and Dolls.

Ann's paintings, illustrations and renderings can be found in private collections in the United States, Europe and Australia and in the permanent collection of the Nikola Marinov Gallery in Turgovishte, Bulgaria. Her theatrical dolls have been exhibited at the Ethnographic Museum in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and at the Ata Rai Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria. Past clients have included Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.

Ann has lived all over the world, in countries as diverse as Bulgaria, Norway, Tanzania and Malta. She currently resides in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with her husband and daughter.
